Step 1 Learning Recipe

"To learn complex information really well, it takes multiple opportunities, over time, and different ways."  -   Dr. Dude Coudret

How will you attend to these ingredients for your Step 1 readiness?

Multiple Opportunities

Over Time

Different Ways

Questions to consider...

  • What do your days look like?

  • What are your baseline goals for learning and Step 1 study each day?

  • When do you do your best learning?

  • What opportunities help you to dig deep in your learning?

  • What opportunities are more superficial?

  • What areas do you know that might need some extra love and attention?

  • How will you approach your review of incorrect questions?

Questions to consider...

All readiness works begin with intention. Consider what your goals are on each of these levels.

  • What timeline are you working towards?

  • What are your weekly goals?

  • How will you approach each day?

Questions to consider...

  • What combination of resources works best for you (Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, Kinesthetic)?

  • What tools (questions, flashcards, videos resources, etc) are you using?

  • Are you using a spaced repetition tool? If so, how are you incorporating it into your daily routines?

  • What other resources are you leaning on? Counseling, tutoring, partner study?

Tips for success:

1) Readiness work doesn't work unless you have a plan.

2) Consistency matters. Readiness work is like a giant sandwich. No one can eat it in one bite, but each bite adds up over time.

3) Pay attention to feedback. Q-banks and diagnostics provide real-time feedback on your learning. Focusing on your weaker areas along the way will propel you along in your readiness. Diving deep in these areas to improve them will be time well spent! Not taking this time will likely lead to a plateau in readiness.
